SEND

At Bishop David Brown School, we are deeply committed to ensuring every child has the opportunity to reach their full potential through our inclusive ethos. This includes support for learning challenges, emotional and social difficulties, medical conditions, and physical disabilities. Our goal is to ensure that every student makes meaningful progress and feels fully included in the life of our school.

Inclusive teaching is a shared responsibility across our staff team, guided by the principle that “All teachers are teachers of SEND” (SEND Code of Practice, 2014). The class teacher plays a central role in every child’s educational journey, working collaboratively with colleagues to create an environment where all learners can thrive.

This section outlines the support and provision BDB School offers for pupils with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND). Our approach includes:

  • High-quality teaching that responds to the individual strengths and needs of every pupil
  • A structured, graduated response to support, delivered through the Assess, Plan, Do, Review cycle in line with the 2014 SEN Code of Practice

We strive to meet students’ needs within mainstream classrooms, and where appropriate, provide smaller group settings to enhance learning. All staff maintain a strong understanding of each student’s primary needs and plan lessons accordingly. They work in close collaboration with the SENDCO and Progress Coaches to deliver high-quality, inclusive teaching that enables students to thrive.

Bishop David Brown also works in partnership with a wide range of external professionals to support both students and their families, ensuring a holistic approach to education and wellbeing.

What should I do if I’m concerned about my child’s needs?

If you have any worries about your child’s progress or wellbeing, your first point of contact should be their form tutor or class teachers. They know your child best in the classroom and can offer valuable insight and support.

If further assistance is needed, our SEND Department is here to help. They work closely with teaching staff to ensure appropriate support is in place for your child’s individual needs.

For any questions regarding your child’s special educational needs, please feel free to get in touch using the following email address: send@bdb-unity.co.uk
